Remove PDF Metadata
Inspect and remove PDF document properties and XMP metadata locally
About this tool
Remove PDF Metadata first reports document properties such as title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation date, modification date, and the presence of a catalog XMP stream. It then creates a separate cleaned PDF by deleting standard Info dictionary entries and, when selected, the XMP metadata reference. Processing stays in the browser. Because any PDF rewrite can invalidate digital signatures, signed or encrypted documents require extra care.
Scenario Recipes
Clean document properties before sharing
Goal: Create a separate PDF without common authoring metadata
- Select the PDF and review every detected property.
- Keep XMP removal enabled unless a workflow explicitly requires it.
- Generate and download the cleaned copy, then verify it before distribution.
Result: A new PDF with standard Info fields and the catalog XMP reference removed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which PDF metadata fields are removed?
The tool removes standard Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, CreationDate, ModDate, and Trapped entries when present.
Can it remove XMP metadata?
Yes. Keep the XMP option enabled to remove the Metadata stream reference from the PDF catalog.
Will removing metadata change visible pages?
Page content is copied through the PDF rewrite without intentional visual edits, but the file bytes and internal object layout change.
Does metadata removal invalidate a digital signature?
Yes. A rewritten PDF no longer matches an existing cryptographic signature, even if visible pages look unchanged.
Can the tool open password-protected PDFs?
Encrypted or restricted PDFs may fail to load because no password is uploaded or sent to a server for processing.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. Inspection, metadata deletion, and creation of the cleaned file happen locally in the browser.
