About this tool

This generator encodes the text-based WIFI: convention for WPA/WPA2, WEP or open networks. Enter the actual SSID and password: the tool preserves spaces and automatically escapes semicolons, colons, commas, quotes and backslashes. Do not pre-escape them. SSIDs are limited to 32 UTF-8 bytes; control characters, tabs and line breaks are rejected, so arbitrary binary SSIDs are outside this tool. WPA3-only/SAE and enterprise EAP configuration are not provided. The network name, password and QR images stay in browser memory; this tool does not save drafts or transmit those fields. PNG and SVG are generated together from one input, with a four-module quiet zone. The encoded-text disclosure includes the password; anyone who receives the QR can also read it. A successful generation proves that the text fits a QR code, not that the network exists, the password is correct or a particular phone can connect.

Production Snippets

A semicolon belongs to the network name

text

SSID input: Guest; East
Password input: example-only
Security: WPA / WPA2
Hidden network: off

Encoded text:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:Guest\; East;P:example-only;;

After decoding, the name is Guest; East, without a backslash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I escape special characters before entering them?

No. Enter the original SSID and password, including meaningful spaces. The generator adds WIFI escaping once. For example, the name Guest; East becomes S:Guest\; East; inside the payload.

Which network types can I encode?

The available T fields are WPA, WEP and nopass. The hidden option adds H:true. WPA is intended for WPA/WPA2 personal-network scanner conventions; this form does not configure WPA3-only SAE, enterprise identities or EAP certificates.

Does a generated code verify that a phone can connect?

No network request or WiFi authentication occurs. Scanner and operating-system support vary. Test the downloaded code on the intended device with the actual network in range before printing it.

Why can an SSID with fewer than 32 characters be rejected?

The limit is 32 UTF-8 bytes, not characters. A basic Latin character usually uses one byte, a common Chinese character three and an emoji four. Spaces are retained; unsupported control characters are rejected.

What is stored or shared?

This tool keeps input and outputs in memory without a saved draft. Exporting or sharing the QR shares its encoded password. Clear removes the current result; deleting a downloaded image must be done separately.

How should I prepare the image for printing?

PNG is 512 by 512 pixels; SVG is scalable. Keep the white four-module border and use sufficient physical size and contrast. Higher error correction can make the symbol denser; it is not a substitute for a scan test.
