About this tool

Barcode Generator creates common one-dimensional symbologies with JsBarcode: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39, ITF-14, and Codabar. Choose bar width, height, quiet-zone margin, foreground and background colors, and whether the human-readable value appears. Valid input depends on the selected format; retail formats enforce digit counts and checksum rules, while Code 128 supports a broader character set. Successful output remains vector SVG in the preview and can be downloaded as SVG or rasterized to a higher-resolution PNG. A visually generated barcode is not proof that an assigned GTIN, UPC, inventory identifier, or shipping number is authorized or registered. Print size, contrast, quiet zones, substrate, printer resolution, and scanner validation still matter for operational use.

Scenario Recipes

01

Create a Code 128 label prototype for scanner testing

Goal: Validate layout and scan reliability before producing operational labels

  1. Enter a non-production test identifier and generate Code 128 with a generous margin and high contrast.
  2. Download SVG for the label layout, preserving its aspect ratio and quiet zones.
  3. Print at the intended size and test multiple samples with the actual scanner before approving the template.

Result: A prototype label whose data, physical size, and scanner behavior have been tested together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which barcode formats are supported?

Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39, ITF-14, and Codabar are available.

Why is my EAN or UPC value rejected?

Retail formats require specific digit lengths and valid checksum rules; letters and arbitrary-length values are not accepted.

Should I download SVG or PNG?

Use SVG for scalable print and layout work. Use PNG when the receiving application requires a bitmap, then verify its final physical size.

What margin should I use?

Keep a clear quiet zone on both sides. The exact requirement depends on the symbology and printing standard.

Does this assign or register a UPC or GTIN?

No. It only renders the supplied value; identifier allocation and authorization come from the relevant standards body or organization.

Is the barcode data uploaded?

No. Validation, SVG rendering, rasterization, and downloads happen locally.
